MBP graduate student Jianan Chen has received a Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention Society (MICCAI) 2021 Student Travel award for his paper titled ‘AMINN: Autoencoder-based Multiple Instance Neural Network for Outcome Prediction of Multifocal Liver Metastases’.

The MICCAI student awards reward the best first author students and subsidises their attendance to present their work at the annual MICCAI conference. Jianan, a PhD student in the lab of MBP scientist Dr. Anne Martel, is one of only 50 recipients who will be granted the highly competitive $500 award.

Jianan’s paper specifically addresses outcome prediction of multifocal cancer patients with imaging findings and deep learning. Jianan found that incorporating features of all tumour lesions of a patient improves outcome prediction. The proposed workflow is also a starting point for exploring the mechanisms of how multifocal cancers drive patient outcome using imaging analysis.

Please join the Department in congratulating Jianan on this outstanding achievement.
