MBP PhD Student Receives Trainee Award

MBP student William Gao has been named the recipient of a 2022 Transform HF Trainee Award for his research project entitled ‘Deep learning framework for cardiopulmonary fitness prediction in heart failure patients using Apple Watch biometric data’. William, a first year PhD student studying under MBP scientist Dr. Chis McIntosh was presented this prestigious distinction alongside two of his peers.

The 'Transform HF Trainee Awards' support master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral students who are researching new technology or models of care to address inequities in heart failure care​. In his project, William aims to apply machine learning to provide interpretability and clinical utility to wearable data. He is interested in bringing machine learning innovation into clinical practice in heart failure.
