MBP graduate student Tony Xu has been named the recipient of a Google PhD Fellowship in health and bioscience for his research into integrating self-supervised learning (SSL) with whole-slide histopathological (WSIs) and light-sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM) images to speed up diagnostic workflows. Xu, a third-year PhD student studying under Dr. Anne Martel and Dr. Maged Goubran, will use this generous funding to support and improve the exposure of his research, and bring more widespread attention to the applications of AI in healthcare.
The Google PhD Fellowship directly support graduate students as they pursue their PhD and connects them to a Google Research Mentor. The program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional and innovative research in areas relevant to computer science and related fields. Fellowships support promising PhD candidates of all backgrounds who seek to influence the future of technology.
Please join the department in congratulating Tony on this outstanding achievement.
