MBP emeritus professors Dr. Ernest McCulloch and Dr. James Till have been recognized in the upcoming “Medical Groundbreakers” stamp series being issued by the Crown Corporation.

Dr. Till and Dr. McCulloch are widely considered to be the ‘fathers of stem cell science’ and were the first to demonstrate the existence of stem cells in bone marrow.

Through their strong collaboration, Till and McCulloch were integral in the early development of the department of Medical Biophysics and their work has been the foundation for much of the biological research being conducted in the Department today.

The mark they made on cancer research is significant; both have been inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and appointed to the Order of Canada.
