Two MBP scientists, Drs. Fei-Fei Liu and Daniel De Carvalho, have been recognized with prestigious honours from the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), the largest professional organization dedicated to advancing cancer research.
Dr. Fei-Fei Liu has been named Chair-Elect of the AACR Radiation Science Medicine (AACR-RSM) Working Group. Dr. Liu will work with the AACR to guide the direction of radiation research for 2022-2023. This working group fosters cross-disciplinary interactions worldwide between radiation oncologists, radiation biologists, medical physicists, and cancer researchers in other fields through AACR programs and initiatives designed to support the involvement of radiation science and medicine efforts in all applicable pursuits to understand and treat cancer malignancies.
Dr. Daniel De Carvalho has been awarded the AACR-Waun Ki Hong Award for Outstanding Achievement in Translational and Clinical Cancer Research. This award recognizes a worthy mid-career cancer researcher who has conducted highly meritorious translational and clinical cancer research. Dr. De Carvalho was recognized for his research into developing a highly sensitive and accurate blood test for cancer detection and characterization. He was also recognized for his discovery of ‘viral mimicry’, a process that can be used to wake up the immune system so that it targets cancer cells.
Please join the Department in congratulating Dr. Liu and De. De Carvalho on these outstanding achievements.
