MBP scientist Dr. Tak Mak has been awarded the prestigious 2023 International Award for Extraordinary Achievement in Cancer Research from the Pezcoller Foundation and the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

Dr. Mak is being recognized for his research on human T cell receptor genes. His contributions have enabled researchers to better understand the biology of T cells, paving the way for existing immunotherapies, including CAR-T therapy and TCR-T therapy. His work has also help deepen insights into CTLA-4, a molecule found to prevent T cells from killing cancer cells.

The Pezcoller Foundation‐AACR International Award for Extraordinary Achievement in Cancer Research was established in 1997 to recognize a scientist of international renown who has made a major scientific discovery in basic cancer research or who has made significant contributions to translational cancer research.

The award will be presented to Dr. Mak at the 2023 AACR Annual Meeting in mid-April in Orlando, Florida.

Please join the Department of Medical Biophysics in congratulating Dr. Mak on this outstanding achievement.
