University of Toronto, PhD Medical Physics Specialization

Inaugural Symposium

Welcome to the Inaugural Symposium for the newly-created Medical Physics PhD Specialization* within the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, happening Friday, April 14th, 2023 at the Princess Margaret Foundation Meeting Space.

The Medical Physics PhD Specialization is created from a collaboration between the Department of Medical Biophysics and both Departments of Medical Physics at Sunnybrook-Odette and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The program is designed to prepare students for a future in the medical physics profession, encompassing roles in research, clinical service, industry and government.

The Inaugural Symposium will highlight the historical impact of the University of Toronto medical physics community in research, clinical practice and industry, going back to the very creation of the Department of Medical Biophysics by illustrious medical physicists. The Symposium will then look at the future to highlight the role of the PhD Specialization in creating new avenues of medical physics exploration and collaboration with the medical community. Foremost, this Symposium invites current and potential new graduate students to see all aspects of medical physics, starting from academic research and clinical care to roles in regulatory activities and industry, providing inspiration towards their future careers.  A reception at the end of the Symposium will enable interested students to mingle and interact with faculty and guest speakers.

Registration is required but free. Lunch and coffee will be provided. Registration will close Thursday, April 6 at noon.

Additional information about the event is provided below.

*The Medical Physics PhD Specialization has submitted an application for accreditation to the Commission for Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP). Accreditation is anticipated in the spring of 2023.
