MBP Alumni Talk - Ali Madani: There and Back Again
The MBP Career Development Association is excited to host a career webinar by department alumnus Dr. Ali Madani, Machine Learning Team Lead at Cyclica on November 10, 2020 at 5 - 6 PM. Ali is a PhD graduate who was supervised by Dr. Benjamin Haibe-Kains, and he will be discussing his transition from academia to industry.
Speaker Bio
Ali Madani is currently leading the Machine Learning team at Cyclica Incorporation. He recently joined Cyclica Inc. as part of their machine learning team to further improve their technology for predicting interaction between ligands and target proteins. Ali finished his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto, working on the development of new machine learning models to predict cancer patients responses to drugs. As a computational biologist and machine learning specialist, Ali has worked on a series of scientific articles in high impact scientific journals and international conferences covering such fields as dimensionality reduction, unsupervised clustering and graphical models. Previously, he earned a masters degree in mathematics from the University of Waterloo, where he focused on modelling of stochastic processes in complex biological systems.
