MBP graduate student Paige Smith has been awarded a prize for a presentation delivered at the 2021 International Symposium for Theraputic Ultrasound (ISTU), which took place in Gyeongju, Korea on June 6 - 9, 2021.

Smith, a PhD student in the lab of MBP researcher Dr. Meaghan O’Reilly, presented a talk entitled ‘Accessing the Validity of using Sub/Ultraharmonic Emissions to Actively Control Blood-Spinal Cord Barrier Opening with Short Burst Exposures’. This talk was part of a series of talks delivered by 12 top students from around the world who had the highest ranked abstracts selected from a pool of 90 submissions. The award for ‘Best Oral Presentation’ was announced and presented to Paige at a ceremony on the last day of the event.

The ISTU is hosted by the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound, which is a non-profit organization ‘founded in 2001 to increase and diffuse knowledge of therapeutic ultrasound to the scientific and medical community, and to facilitate the translation of therapeutic ultrasound techniques into the clinical area for the benefit of patients worldwide.’ The 2021 Symposium was the organization’s first ever ‘hybrid symposium’, where both virtual and in person attendance were offered.

Please join the Department on congratulating Paige Smith for this remarkable achievement.
