August

M August 8 Registration for September session begins

M September 5 Labour Day; University closed
T September 6 SGS Graduate Orientation 2011 for new students
W September 7 MBP Orientation -- MANDATORY for first year students. 11:30 am Room 6-702, PMH. Group photo at 11:00 am, followed by Orientation and Scholarship information sessions. These will be followed by a New Students Social. Continuing students are welcome to attend the orientation and scholarship information session.
Th September 15 Final date to submit Ph.D. theses to SGS to avoid fee charges for 2011-2012*
F September 16 Registration for September session ends, after this date, a  late registration fee will be assessed
M September 26 Final date to add full-year and Fall session courses
F September 30
  • Final date for receipt of degree recommendation and submission of any required theses for master's degrees for Fall Convocation and to avoid 2011-2012 fee charges.*
  • Final date to submit final doctoral thesis for Fall Convocation.*

December

T December 1 MBP 50th Anniversary Students Travel Awards application due for travel between January 1 and June 30, 2012.
F December 16 Final date to schedule a M.Sc. Oral Exam in 2011
F December 16 Students admitted into the Ph.D. program in September 2010 must have their Qualifying Exam by this date.
W December 23 – F December 31 (inclusive) U of T, including the MBP Administrative offices, will be closed for the holidays. The office will re-open on Monday, January 2nd, 2012.

 


2012

January

T January 3 First date a M.Sc. Oral Exam can be scheduled in 2012.
F January 13 Final date for REGISTRATION (i.e. pay or defer fees) of students beginning program in January session. After this date, must register at SGS and pay late registration fee.
M January 16 Final date to submit Ph.D. theses to SGS without fee payment for January session.
M January 23 Final date to ADD January session courses.
F January 27 Final date for all students to request that their degrees be conferred in absentia in March
F January 27 Final date for receipt of degree recommendations and submission of any required theses for March or June graduation for master’s students without fees being charged for the January session.
F January 27 September dual registrants must be recommended by the MBP office for the M.Sc. degree by this date to maintain their Ph.D. registration.


February

M February 20 Family Day; University closed
M February 27 Final date to DROP full-year or January session courses without academic penalty

 

March

March Second year M.Sc. students (Physics stream) who started in September 2010 and wish to reclassify into the Ph.D. program must reclassify by the end of this month.
March March convocation in absentia. Information posted at www.convocation.utoronto.ca
March Students admitted into the Ph.D. program in January 2011 must have their Qualifying Exam by this date

 

April

F April 6 Good Friday; University closed
F April 20 Final date for receipt of degree recommendations and submission of any required theses for master’s degrees for June Convocation. A note from student’s supervisor should be sent to the MBP office to inform that the changes have been completed. The MBP office will then send in the degree recommendation.
F April 20 Final date for submission of final Ph.D. thesis to SGS for students whose degrees are to be conferred at June convocation.
F April 20 Final date for degree recommendations of January dual registrants for the master’s degree to maintain their Ph.D. registration
F April 27 Deadline to pay fees without incurring service charges if fees have been deferred.


May

M May 21 Victoria Day; University closed

REGISTRATION
You are considered officially registered as soon as you have paid tuition and incidental fees, or have requested to register without payment.

MASTER'S GRADUATING STUDENTS

  • September 30 - If your degree recommendation has been submitted to SGS prior to this date, you do not register or pay fees. You will graduate in November. If a thesis is required, the final thesis must be submitted to SGS by September 30.
  • January 27 - If your degree recommendation has been submitted to SGS prior to this date, you do not register or pay fees for the January session. You may choose to graduate in March (in absentia) or June. If you are not recommended by January 27, you will be required to pay fees for the second session and any service charges that have accrued. If a thesis is required, it must be submitted to SGS by January 27.
  • If you have been permitted dual registration for the September session in a Master’s and PhD program, you will be registered in both programs but will be required to pay fees only for the doctoral program. If you do not complete your master’s program by January 27, your PhD registration for the September session will be cancelled and your fee payment will be applied to your master’s registration.
  • April 20 - If your degree recommendation has been submitted to SGS prior to this date, you will graduate in June. If a thesis is required, it must be submitted to SGS by April 20.

DOCTORAL GRADUATING STUDENTS

  • Fees for doctoral candidates in the final year of their program are assessed on the 15th of each month and differ from completion dates for eligibility to graduate.
  • September 30 - To graduate in November, doctoral candidates must have successfully defended their thesis at an SGS oral examination and submitted the final approved thesis to SGS by this date.
  • January 27 - To graduate in March (in absentia), doctoral candidates must have successfully defended their thesis at an SGS oral examination and submitted the final approved thesis to SGS by this date.
  • April 20 - To graduate in June, doctoral candidates must have successfully defended their thesis at an SGS oral examination and submitted the final approved thesis to SGS by this date
