The Department welcomes applications from graduates in any of the biological or physical sciences including chemistry, biology, genetics, immunology and biochemistry, as well as from medicine, engineering, computer sciences or any related sciences. Applicants are evaluated based on academic achievement and potential for creative research.

To be considered for admission, completion of an appropriate four-year bachelor's degree from a recognized university is required. Applicants should achieve a minimum A- or 80% average in their final two years, however, this guideline is flexible for those demonstrating exceptional aptitude for research.

Generally, there is no direct entry into the Ph.D. program with exception to applicants who already hold a master's degree from a Canadian university. Students accepted into our M.Sc. program may reclassify into the Ph.D. program within 18 months from their registration, if eligible. Students who have been accepted directly into the Ph.D. program must pass a qualifying exam within 15 months from their registration.
